Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) enables integration and extension of these applications to improve productivity and effectiveness of business operations.
Enterprise portfolio and infrastructure consists of a large number of both custom and packaged applications. These applications tend to be focused on specific functionality and/or process and often do not directly communicate - leading to data integrity issues or need to use multiple systems to perform a business function. With a greater reliance on packaged applications, unless an enterprise relies on a single vendor for all its applications, need to intra-enterprise integration has continued to grow. In addition businesses are continued to be pushed to integrate with both their suppliers and customers - who are also looking to cut costs by eliminating redundant manual work.

There are a number of tools available for EAI and new ones continue to emerge. Challenges lie in identification of the right opportunities and efficient/flexible platform for integration EAI. EAI tools and consulting services are expensive requiring high investment in EAI projects. |
